Max Leuchars attended Bryanston School, where his art classes introduced him to various artists and methods that inspire his work today. Max, currently aged 24, originally from Hampshire lives and works in Manchester and travels widely, seeking inspiration from both rural and urban scenes.
He makes large scale paintings of the places he visits, attempting to recreate the sense of vitality and motion he observes by applying thick layers of oil paint with a palette knife, and then scratching lines and marks into the surface in the sgraffito style to imply movement, as well as scraping back layers of paint and reworking his surfaces to give a three dimensional feel to the image. He has worked from locations in the UK and Europe.
